The people of Chile typically eat four meals a day. Breakfast consists of a light serving of toast, with a cup of coffee or tea that is well sugared. Lunch is the main meal of the day, and is typically served between 1 and 3 pm. In the late afternoon, which is considered to be around 5 and 7 pm, Chileans generally take their afternoon tea, which typically entails a sandwich with some form of dessert, plus coffee and tea. Dinner is served after 9 pm and may not even be served until midnight. The food hours reflect the working hours of the Chilean workday. Because the Chileans take a long lunch in early afternoon, they start work around 9 am and finish working late in the evening around 8 pm.
