Ancud introduces visitors to the unique charm of the Chiloé archipelago, off the southern coast of Chile. Isla Grande, Ancud is found on the northern point of the main island and sweeps visitors back in time. The town is very picturesque as it maintains its origin as a fishing port. The bright boats that sail by the town are testimony to the generations of fisherman who have sailed the surrounding waters. Visitors can appreciate magnificent views of the neighboring countryside at the top of Huaihuèn Hill. Or, stop into the town’s primary market for some of mouth-watering seafood. The ruins of San Antonio Fort, the last Spanish stronghold in the country, are also found in Ancud.
