Beginner's Guide to Child Safety

Microsoft is set to introduce a new line of parental controls and safety measures aimed at better safeguarding children on the web. The company claims it will be providing better features to protect applicants of the new Windows Live.

Family Safety Settings provides an in-depth web-filtering system that will allow customers to allow, block or warn settings for a wide range of content categories. Parents should be able to access activity reports for each user in the family from any PC at any time to help stay informed about how their kids are communicating online.

Apparently Microsoft consulted various organizations to provide better guidance in developing appropriate settings for their online restrictions and notifications.

The recent Inaugural Samantha Foundation hosted a golf tournament at the Westview Country Club in Miami to raise money and awareness for promoting child safety in the home. More than 100 golfers attended the tournament, raising around $75,000 for the cause.

The event was founded by Katie and Mark Kessler, whose daughter was killed at home in a tragic home accident, and sponsored by Florida Power & Light.

After the tournament, more than 200 participants dined on a gourmet buffet dinner and bid in a silent auction for items such as vacations to California and a private basketball lesson from a Miami Heat coach.

Proceeds from the tournament will help implement safety-related educational programs as well as create kits that offer materials and information about creating safer homes.
