St. Eustatius, known to islanders as Statia, is located in the northeastern Caribbean, 150 miles east of Puerto Rico and 38 miles south of St. Maartin. The island is 5 miles long and 2 miles wide with an area of 11.8 square miles. Statia’s population is 2,900 and is made up of mostly people from African descent. Nature abounds on this island, perfect for exploring.
Diving is one of the most popular activities on Statia. The island sits among underwater volcanic clefts and canyons, coral and sponge covered walls, and colorful marine life. One site has several shipwrecks that are covered by only 60 or 70 feet of water.
