The total area is 687 square miles and the population is 412,000. Guadeloupe has an interesting blend of African and French influences.

The Route de la Traversée, or the Transcoastal Highway, is the best way to explore Parc Naturel de Guadeloupe, one of the largest and most beautiful parks in the Caribbean. This park is a huge combination of mountains and tropical forests, and it provides a home for a huge variety of tame animals and exotic birds. There are small exhibition huts throughout the park that provide information on Guadeloupe’s volcano, forests, and exports such as coffee, sugar cane, and rum. Parc Naturel is never closed, has no admission fee, and is not gated.
