When looking for the appropriate test(s) for your situation, start with your Human Resources Department. If your company is too small to have an organized HR Department, start at the library. The following reference materials can help you find the tests that will meet your needs.
- Tests in Print (TIP): This is an encyclopedia of every published test that is available commercially.
- Mental Measurements Yearbook (MMY): This is an alphabetical list of available tests, with a brief description of each test.
- Tests: This is also an alphabetical list of tests with a description of each test.
- Test Critiques: This volume is a companion to Tests, and contains information which would be useful to those professionals who will be administering individual tests.
These sources can help find test publishers, and can assist you with the specifics of their tests and who is qualified to administer them.
Another source for test information is the internet. At http://www.ets.org/ you can find information on over 25,000 standardized tests.
Before spending a great deal of money on the tests offered commercially, it would be wise to do further study about each test and what information it can give. Each test and the subsequent result will have limits, strengths and weaknesses. Choose carefully which test(s) you will use in order to get the greatest knowledge benefit as you seek to hire and utilize the talents of each employee.
