Elementary schools recognize the need to teach each child in a variety of ways to ensure total learning of the required concepts. Business could take a lesson from these schools and offer training that speaks to each personality and learning style in a variety of ways.

By implementing training sessions designed to communicate to the group of people in each course, training benefits will go up. Production and efficiency will go up and training costs will become more manageable as you target the training to the people in the training, not just the job they perform.

Studies have shown that groups of people working toward a common goal, such as business majors at a local university, often have similar personalities and learning styles. Training for accounting staff and sales personnel would naturally be different in content and goals, but the way those materials are presented should also be varied. By offering personality and or learning style tests through your HR department, you may find that those persons working in accounting or actuarial positions have similar learning styles. But that group may vary radically in learning style from those who make up your sales force. By targeting each group in different ways, you can best reach each group in a manner that is most effective for them.
Keep in mind that no one person learns in just one way. When planning training for the accounting staff, it is important that you do not follow the same formula for every training session. By varying the types of training and by including several different training styles or formulas during each training session, the probability of learning and retention is increased.
