Good luck will certainly play a part in finding your dream job. When you find it, will you be ready for it? Waiting at home for fate to deliver your fantasy job to you will most likely end in disappointment. However, hard work, diligence, and honing your talents will pay off.
Take advantage of the job that you have now. Through networking, taking evening classes and continuing education opportunities, you can expand your abilities. By speaking to your boss, you may be able to open a door you didn’t know about before. If you want to take on additional responsibilities, let your boss know that you want to grow within the company. Your dream job may be just down the hall or around the corner.
Richard Bolles, author of “What Color is Your Parachute?” recommends talking to everyone you know….and all the people they know, who are working in the field you wish to enter. This is a great way to find out about jobs ahead of the pack. Enlisting a support team to help you watch for opportunities will naturally help you find more of them.
When a job presents itself, go back to your personal inventory. Does this job meet your requirements? Will it offer you the opportunity to move steadily toward your goal? Referring back to what it is you really want out of your job will help you decide if this job could be your dream job.
