Even if you are the busy CEO of a powerful Fortune 500 company, you can find time for continuing education in your schedule thanks to the flexibility offered by many institutions. Think about it this way: Would you like to visit a doctor who had not taken any steps to advance and refresh his knowledge since he graduated from medical school 25 years ago? For the same reasons, you should not be trying to run your business without refreshing your skills and learning new things.

Distance learning can allow you to carry out continuing education in the comfort of your own home on your own time. In many cases, you do not have to drive to a classroom, but rather you can connect to your education through your home computer.

If you are struggling to find the time and motivation for continuing education, do it with a friend. This will not only provide you with an accountability partner to ensure you stay the course, but it will provide you with a study partner and someone to celebrate with when you complete the course.

Even if you cannot make time for a course, build time into your schedule to be a lifelong learner. Read journals and newspaper articles that pertain to your field. Read a book and then set up a lunchtime book discussion group about it. Or subscribe to an e-mail newsletter that will keep you apprised of trends in your business.
