How do I sustain Career Development?
One of the best ways for sustaining career development is to find a mentor. A mentor in the professional sense is one who teaches, molds and shapes. It's like finding your personal Obe Won Kenobi. It's that person who helps you polish and refine your skills to take you to the next level professionally. They simply make you that much better. Because people like being asked for their opinions, be cautious of seeking just anyone's counsel. The best mentors are well respected and have stood the test of time.
Networking is also critical for sustained success. If you're a marketer, consider joining your local chapter of the American Marketing Association, or the Direct Marketing Association of America. There you will be able to connect with leaders in your industry and rub elbows with those deemed highly successful in their careers. Opportunities for business relationships and mentoring opportunities also abound. These organizations exist to promote marketing and marketing development. Almost every discipline has its professional membership�even dog groomers have their professional association! There's something for everyone.
You could even consider joining a civic organization like the Rotary Club. While a civic organization may not exist to promote your discipline, it is a wonderful opportunity to meet other business leaders in your community in addition to supporting worthwhile causes.
