You can actually gain the advantage if you print out a list showing the current salaries for workers in your position and how much they get paid. If you are under this you may have some leverage. When you are talking to your boss, don't lose your temper or your sense of humor. Another thing you can do is to praise your boss for his hard work and tell him how much you enjoy working for him. Sometimes this will lighten the mood and make your boss more receptive.
