Unfortunately, the answer can be no. When choosing a career there are several questions you must ask if you are looking to advance. These are as follows:
- How often does this company promote people? Ask a friend in the company or observe those around you. Do promotions happen often or are employees having to wait long lengths of time to advance?
- Does this company have the budget to promote? If a company is facing bankruptcy or is going through another hard budgeting time, they probably will not have the resources to promote you and pay you more money. In this case, you will probably have to wait until the tragedy is over to advance.
- How involved are the supervisors of the company? A supervisor has to be open to you advancing for you to get promoted. Look for a company who has managers who are very involved and get to know their employees. This will increase the possibility of them noticing your hard work.
- Are their positions available for you to advance into? This primarily pertains to someone who is seeking a very high up position such as CEO or CIO. Unless the person who currently holds the position is doing a terrible job, these are the types of jobs that are usually only given upon death or retirement. Be prepared to have to wait for a position like these.
