As a user of computers and email, you know that spam is a very annoying thing. It ties up your inbox and your mail server. Not to mention the cost involved if you are paying for so much bandwidth or email messages. Well the same can go with fax broadcasting. You may have good intentions, but if you aren't careful about it, you can inadvertently send someone a fax that they didn't request. Take a look at your email account or fax software when you sign up for a service. You will notice how you will also start getting bombed with spam or junk faxes. This is what businesses also get from you if you send them something they don't want. The best way to avoid this is by doing the following:

• Not constantly faxing: Do not make it a habit to make fax broadcasts on a regular basis. It doesn't matter what your message is, people don't want to see stuff coming in from either their fax machine or on their computers that they did not want or ask for. So be careful and considerate of others. If not, you may be black listed and they may call you and file a complaint or sue you for harassment or other charges.
• Ask permission: Contact the people on your list and make sure they okay you sending them faxes. This way at least you aren't being rude or inconsiderate and won't be spamming or sending junk faxes they don't care to receive. Even then, you still want to be cautious and not fax them every day, week, or month. Maybe one a month is okay. But don't do it too often.
• Know the law: Before you fax anyone, know the laws regarding junk fax. There are laws established that protect businesses from receiving junk faxes. So make sure you are not violating the law or you may be in for some serious trouble.
