Rise early on day five and drive 125 miles down the Atlantic coast north to the picturesque coastal town of Paraty, which borders Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo. Spend the morning in the colonial town of Paraty wandering the beautiful, cobblestone streets. The town is located on the edge of the scenic Ilha Grande Bay, and during high tide, the streets are partly flooded by seawater, adding to the romantic ambiance of the town.
By the afternoon, you will be ready to hit one of the numerous white, immaculate beaches that Brazil is renowned for. Spend the afternoon soaking up the sun. Or, explore one of the national parks that surround Paraty. Nature enthusiasts will appreciate the wildlife, scenic trails, and waterfalls found within the national parks. Visit Ilha Grande, a state park originating in 1971, which envelops 4,500 hectares of wilderness including unique, local flora and fauna. Keep your eye out for various species of monkeys, snakes, hedgehogs, armadillos, and endangered species such as the Bugio monkey.
