It doesn’t matter how experienced a boater is, accidents can still happen but there are many ways of preventing them and keeping the risk down to a minimum.
• The weather. It is important to keep your eye out on daily forecasts, if caught in storms with choppy seas then this can and most likely cause major problems with the need to be rescued by a lifeguard
• When aboard, make sure that you and all passengers have lifejackets on at all times, should the boat capsize for example then at least it can keep the party afloat
• Take a boat safety course. This will benefit anybody aboard with knowing all essential safety rules but it could also slightly reduce costs for insurance to use on the water
• It is law that no boat owner operates such machinery whilst under influence of drugs or alcohol. This can serious impair your judgement and may result in hefty fines if caught out by police or a lifeguard
