Before you head off to your first day of sailing school, you should check with your instructor to see what types of things you will need with you on the boat. Here are some things you might need:

• Appropriate clothing for the season
• Long-sleeve shirt
• Jeans for going ashore
• Sweatshirt for the cool evenings
• Deck shoes
• Rain gear
• Sunscreen, lip balm, and insect repellant
• Wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses
• Sailing gloves
• Personal toiletries, such as shampoo, soap, deodorant
• All course materials required: textbooks, logbook, notebook, pencils, and navigation tools
• Camera and film
• Motion sickness medication
• Personal medication and first aid kit
