It is important to always remember safety prevention with your sailboat. If you take the time to adequately prepare your boat, you can avoid potential problems later on. Here are some important safety rules:

• Locate and inspect all safety equipment on board such as the fire extinguishers
• Open and air out all enclosed compartments on the boat
• Check all the boat’s fluids such as oil, water, and fuel. Fill if necessary.
• Pay careful attention to the weather report
• Before setting off, prepare sails for raising in open water
• Count how many approved Type I, II, III, and V personal flotation devices are on the boat
