If you purchase a sailboat, it is very important to perform regular maintenance on the vessel. With proper hull maintenance, you cannot lose. Your boat will sail faster, maintain better resale value, and remain sea worthy. First, be sure to store your boat out of the water. Unfortunately, saltwater is corrosive and hull bottoms remain a sea creatures’ haven. If at all possible, keep the sailboat on land! Next, clean your sailboat hull regularly. Use a soft rag on the boat so that unwanted growth can be removed but not the boat’s paint. Third, rinse off your sailboat hull with fresh water every time you finish sailing. Fourth, wax your hull at least one time a year to create a protective covering from the elements. Finally, employ a reputable bottom-cleaning service to maintenance the boat on a regular basis.
