» Types of Fishing Guides
There are fishing guides for all kinds of fishing. Whether you want to fish in the United States or abroad, in salt water or freshwater, for tarpon or crappie, you will be able to find a fishing guide to suit your needs. Here is a brief description of the three main types of fishing guides:
· Fly Fishing: Fly fishing is a type of fishing in which the fisherman uses extremely light artificial bait called a “fly.” Instead of the bait sinking part way down into the lake, like in standard fishing, the fly sort of dances atop the water, attracting fish from below. This method of fishing is particularly effective when casting for trout. Fly fishing is primarily done in freshwater, but it is possible to fly fish in salt water. Fly fishing guides will not only help you know where the best places are to catch fish, but also will teach you the proper way to cast a fly rod and reel, which is a little trickier than the standard fishing equipment.
· Fresh Water Fishing: Fresh water fishing is fishing that is done in any fresh water body (not salt water). The most popular type of fresh water fish to fish for include bass, crappie, trout, perch, pike and catfish. Some of these fish are good for eating…Some are merely caught for sport. You can fresh water fish in inland lakes, rivers and ponds all over the world. Some of the most popular regions in America for fresh water fishing are the Pacific Northwest and the Midwest. Fresh water fishing guides are available in every state and many international locations.
· Salt Water Fishing: Salt water fishing is done primarily in oceans and gulfs around the world, although there are a few inland bodies that are salt water (like the Great Salt Lake in Salt Lake City, Utah). Salt water guides are the most often used fishing guides, probably because people need more assistance navigating the oceans and gulfs than most lakes and rivers. Fishing charters on salt water bodies are a multi-million dollar per year industry. There are many kinds of fish to fish for in salt water bodies: sharks, swordfish, grouper, snapper, marlin, sea bass, snook, and redfish, among many others. Again, some of these fish are caught to be eaten, while others are caught simply for sport. Because it is surrounded by water on three sides, Florida is America’s most popular state for salt water fishing. International locations are also very popular for this type of fishing.
