Speeding Bill Overturned

The New Hampshire State Senate last week rejected a bill which would have imposed a 45 mph during the day and 25 mph at night on all public New Hampshire lakes and rivers.

The year since the bill was introduced it has prompted letter, calls, and emails to lawmakers on both sides of the debate.

Some believe that the bill would have been an infringement on personal freedoms, while proponents claimed that speeding on public lakes was a dangerous problem and the root of near-accidents. Opponents claimed that over-congestion was the real issue.

The bill was only narrowly overturned, meaning debate and controversy on the issue is likely to continue in and around New Hampshire's waterways.
