Boating laws have recently been changed in New Jersey, as the Coast Guard Auxiliary announced that state residents would now be required for anyone born after December 31st, 1968, to take a mandatory boating course before they can legally operate a powerboat.
Police also indicated that a new Boat License, administered by the DMV was necessary for electric motors on all New Jersey non-tidal waters, but have made an exception in many other cases.
Apparently these laws are subject to random change and uncertain intervals. Consult the local Flotillas and State Police for concrete information. Information on boat safety in New Jersey can also be found here.
