» When should I replace my mattress?
According to the Better Sleep Council, many of us forget that our mattresses are the most utilized piece of furniture we own. In fact, if you sleep eight hours a night, in one year you’ll rack up 3,000 hours on your mattress. After 10 years, you’ll have logged 30,000 hours on the same bed. These are a few things that may affect your thinking about purchasing a new mattress.
· You bought your current mattress over eight years ago. The average life span of a quality mattress is eight to ten years. Mattresses older than that suffer from deteriorating comfort features and diminished support capabilities.
· You wake up feeling more tired than when you went to sleep. Most people wait far too long to replace their mattresses. If you don’t wake up feeling rested and rejuvenated then you have probably waited too long. Or even worse, if you wake up with any pain or discomfort, you have definitely waited too long.
· Your couch feels more comfortable than your mattress. Your body needs a smooth surface to get a good night’s sleep, so bumps and coils from a bad mattress can keep that from happening. If your couch offers you a night of sleep with less tossing and turning than your bed then you need a new mattress.
· Your mattress looks worn and uneven from use. Look for sags and imprints in your mattress. If it looks uneven or worn and frayed, you need to get a new one.
· You hear your mattress talking back to you. If your mattress creaks and groans and simply makes too much noise, there is a great possibility that those noises are the result of breakdown of the simplest components of your mattress. You have most likely taken your mattress for granted and if you look and listen closely, what you find may send you shopping.
