Queen Bed vs. King Bed

·        One thing that is important to determine initially is what size bed you actually need and want. There are a variety of factors that can play a role in this decision. First, let’s consider that a twin size mattress, which is made to accommodate a single sleeper, is 39” wide. This will give us a guide as to how much room a sleeper actually has in each of the other bed choices. In comparing a King Bed and a Queen bed, it is vital that one understand the dimensions of each. The standard Queen bed is 60” wide x 80” long, which gives the sleeper 30” of sleeping room (width), which is actually 9” less than what they would have were they sleeping in a twin bed alone. When one considers reality in these terms, this specifically, the difference between a Queen and King bed is enormous. An Eastern/Standard King bed is 76” wide x 80” long, which offers the sleeper 38” of sleeping room (width), which is almost comparable to that of a twin bed exactly. Night after night of eight more inches can mean quite a bit to some sleepers, so understanding these measurements and your needs is highly valuable before you begin your shopping. Every sleeper has preferences and if room is one of yours, then a King Bed is most likely your best option. However, if you are a sleeper that wants to be cozy, then the Queen Bed is perfect for you. Secondly, the amount of space in your bedroom can play a primary role in what type of bed you purchase and in most cases, a King Bed is simply too large at 76” wide. A Queen Bed on the other hand can be “just right” at a comfortable 60” wide as it will fit nicely into most bedrooms.
