Have you ever dreamed of soaring high in the air….looking over the world from a magic carpet, or just sleeping on a bed of clouds? If so, then you probably wanted a loft bed when you were a kid! Who knows, you may even want a loft bed now! Loft beds have traditionally been used mostly in children’s rooms in the form of bunk beds or raised platform beds. Bunk beds have become great space savers for families with children who share a bedroom or for children who need more space to play or study. They are also a big hit with families who have a lot of visitors…less space, more room! Loft beds are basically beds that have been built on a raised platform or frame, so that the space underneath the mattress can be used for other functions, whether it be another bed, desk space, storage, play space, or endless other options.

For college students, loft beds have been a way of life for decades. Colleges across the United States have been packing students into loft beds like sardines for ages! Almost every dorm dweller from the age of 18-22 has slept in a loft bed of some type! Loft beds in college dorm rooms have greatly increased the number of students that can reside in the dorm, as well as increase the amount of living space in the dorm room itself. This living space, already severely limited, can then be utilized for other things as well as sleeping.

Loft beds aren’t just for kids or college students anymore! There is a serious, growing market for loft beds that is specifically targeting young professionals; particularly young, professional city-dwellers. Anyone who lives in a large city in the United States can tell you several things: it’s expensive; space is minimal; often you can’t afford to live except in community; more people means LESS space and thus less cost; and lastly, loft beds allow you to have more space!
