·        The best sleeping position is on your back, with a pillow tucked under the back of your knees. By laying this way you undue the stress on your spinal cord.
·        If you are a person who whether sleep on your side, it is best to place a pillow between your knees so the stress of your hips and lower spinal area is lessened.
·        If you are a person who likes to sleep on your stomach, the best way to do this is by having a flat pillow beneath the stomach and hip area.
 
Many of these positions are for people who are bothered with lower back problems. But what if you have a specific back condition? There are adjustable beds that fit many types of back problems. Here are just a few most diagnosed back problems and the required sleeping position:
 
·        Arthritis of the facet joints: If you are diagnosed with arthritis in the facet joints (lower part of the spine, you may need to sleep on your side with your knees facing your stomach. This helps to relieve any pressure in that area. An adjustable bed would work well in this condition.
·        Degenerating disc: If you are diagnosed with one or more discs that are degenerating, you may have to sleep on your stomach. This will help to alleviate the pain in the disc area.  Again, an adjustable bed would work wonders by contouring to the shape of the spine thereby taking all pressure off that area.
·        Compressed nerve root: With this type of condition, the person may have to sleep on his side in a fetal position to take the pressure away from the nerve root. An adjustable bed would be able to help in this situation.
