It’s sometimes enlightening to step back and ponder the various things in our lives that we frequently use but rarely consider. Refrigerators, commodes and razors are just a few of the products that add tremendous convenience to our lives yet are so utilitarian that we repeatedly use them without any thought. Perhaps no item better defines that list than a showerhead. Day after day (or night after night, depending upon work schedules) we step sleepily into a shower in order to clean and invigorate ourselves, but how many of us actually consider the very instrument that projects water into our showers? As at least a partial remedy to that problem, within the confines of this article we’ll take a brief look at the various styles of showerheads and some of the features available for this largely ignored bathroom fixture.

Though many of us ignore our showerheads unless they’re functioning improperly, that’s not stopped manufacturers from producing new and varied styles and models. From standard chrome to polished brass, there are products available with a wide array of finishes. Moreover, showerhead retailers continue to offer more and more features with even the most standard of showerheads, such as movable arms, anti-clog nozzles and push-button settings. The wide range of choices offers consumers the ability to choose a showerhead that fits their cleaning and aesthetic needs, and purchasers may choose to spend less than $100 or more than $1,000. Though features vary from model to model, there are three basic types of consumer showerheads: adjustable-spray showerheads; rainshower showerheads; shower towers. We’ll examine each of the three types below and then detail some purchasing tips you should consider as you choose showerheads for your home.
