Why is infrared heat safer than other types of heat?

Infrared heat, also known as FIR (far-infrared radiant) is a safer way to heat an area, especially saunas, for a number of reasons. First of all, unlike direct heat, infrared heat does not heat an object directly. The infrared heat is distributed evenly and raises the overall temperature of the room being heated. Unlike ultraviolet radiation heat, infrared heat uses energy that impacts deeply into the body resulting in an increase in circulation and healing of damaged tissue.

Specifically, because infrared heat transforms from light energy to heat energy it can penetrate deeper into the body’s tissue. As discussed earlier this enables the capillaries in the body’s tissue to dilate, which in turn increases circulation.
