Balinese dance is a beautiful part of the culture in Bali and is a part of many traditional ceremonies as well as productions designed specifically for visitors to the island. Some of the most famous dances are:

• Barong Dance. A contest between chaos and order.
• Legong Dance. An extremely detailed and difficult dance by young girls.
• Fire Dance. An exorcist dance for those who may be demon possessed.

For those who are visiting Bali and wish to experience a full evening of dance and dinner, there are often packages at beach hotels where cultural dinner shows are held. Those who are staying at personal villas can often book a group of about 40 dancers to come perform for them and then explain anything they wish to know about the presentation. There are also dance lessons available at the Foundation for Pure Art for those who are truly interested in learning about this favorite Balinese attraction.

Another aspect of Balinese performance is the traditional drama of the island. Two of the most popular types of these performances are Wayang Kulit – an Indonesian shadow puppet plays with incredibly skilled puppeteers – and Balinese Temple Festivals which feature all kinds of drama.
