Before beginning your baby on any type of solids you'll want to make sure and get the okay from your pediatrician but usually the time that most infants begin to eat solid foods is between the age of 4 and 6 months. Before this age babies are unable to digest anything but bottle or breast milk. The chance of allergic reaction to solid foods is also reduced when they are introduced closer to the 6 month mark of a baby's life. Babies younger than 4 months are also not able to work their tongues in the way necessary to swallow solid foods. Doctors also say that waiting longer to introduce solid foods shortens the time between the transition from spoon to self feeding. It is also a good rule of thumb for parents to let their baby indicate when they are ready to begin solids.
