To be so small and seemingly fragile, a little baby requires a lot of equipment to make trips away from home smooth and easy. Here is a suggested list of things to take:
• A stroller, which ideally is the kind that you can just place the infant car seat in without having to remove the baby from the car seat carrier. Cloth infant carriers that you strap around your front are a nice way to keep your baby close to you and warm on cold days. This carrier is not ideal for heavy babies and long outings.
• Blankets to cover the child
• A diaper bag with diapers, wipes, diaper rash cream, hand sanitizer for you, an extra outfit, any bottles or snacks the child may be able to have, soft toys, a pacifier if he or she uses one, a pad to use for changing the baby, and even a few sanitizing wipes to clean surfaces where the baby will eat (if he or she is able to sit up in a high chair) or change the baby's diaper.
• Other things to consider include hats (both to protect from the sun or for warmth), sunscreen for babies over 6 months of age, any medications that might be important to have on hand. If you are a nursing mom, consider taking a water bottle in order to stay well hydrated.
