Babies are loved all over the world and get attention anytime they show their sleepy or smiley faces in public. While one baby will certainly get plenty of attention, twins or triplets will draw a crowd! Sometimes people in the public do not use discernment when they are around babies; well-meaning strangers will touch, try to pick up or even kiss infants. This is nerve-wracking for a new mom. Being proactive to prevent such things is the key. Body language can communicate a sense of friendliness and yet boundaries: talk to strangers who are inquiring about your baby while you are standing between them and the child. If people are approaching the child, speak up quickly and ask them not to touch the baby. Speak kindly, but don't worry about appearing rude. Especially if you have twins or multiples, learning not to make eye contact and to appear inviting for conversation with others will be crucial to keeping sane while trying to get your shopping done in your favorite discount store. Otherwise, a thirty minute shopping trip will morph into a couple of hours.
