A four month old baby typically sleeps about 14 to 17 hours a day, and he might even sleep around six hours at night without waking up. He can roll over, and usually he'll roll from his stomach to his back first. He can sit with support and lift his head up 90 degrees. He can now follow a moving object for a 180 degree arc. A four month old will babble and amuse himself with all the new noises he's making. He responds to all colors and shades, and he explores objects with his mouth. He can recognize a bottle or a breast. By this time, he can communicate pain, fear, loneliness, and discomfort by crying. He will also respond to a rattle or a bell.
