It goes with out saying that the birth of a baby is a joyous occasion. But for many parents that joy sometimes quickly fades to desperation if their baby is one of the millions born each year with colic. Colic not only affects the infant, it can also have a dramatic affect on the entire family. The parents of the colicky baby are likely to become frazzled, sleep deprived, angry, stressed out, irritated, and even depressed if their baby develops colic. It can be quite emotional to sit and watch your baby cry uncontrollably and not be able to do anything to sooth them. Many parents feel like failures because they feel as if it's their job to make everything okay for their baby. Colic can also affect other children in the house as well especially if the crying spells occur when the other child/children are home. The overall mood in the home of a colicky baby can sometimes be quite down and melancholy.
