Caring for a newborn is a challenge but taking care of one who has colic can be even more overwhelming. Before frustration sets in try to remember some of these coping tools to help you deal with the crying spells:

• Take Shifts: Taking care of a colic baby while he or she is having one of their crying spells can be frustrating. But taking shifts to care for the little one can help relieve some of the tension building up. Moms and dads can take turns holding or taking care of the baby while it cries. Or any other caretaker for that matter can get involved in the shift changes.
• Try to Stay Calm: This might be easier said than done but it is important to remember that although it may not seem like it now your baby will eventually grow out of the colic. Keeping in mind that your baby looks to you for security and comfort will usually help parents stay calm if they feel themselves starting to become frustrated with the crying spells.
• Ask for Help: If the baby's colicky spells are wearing you down, don't be shy asking grandparent's, other family members, or friends to help out at other times in order to allow yourself time to take a nap, take a long hot bath, or even just a walk. The time away will do you good.
