• Only Mom Can Feed: When a baby is breast fed the mother is the only one who can feed the baby except for the occasional supplemented bottle of breast milk. But most of the feeding responsibilities fall on the mother which can be overwhelming and not to mention tiring when the baby is not sleeping through the night.
• Painful Feeding: Many women experience pain associated with breastfeeding. The feeding in itself is often painful but it usually subsides with in the first month or so however, nipples are very prone to become dry and cracked which in turn can be extremely painful for a breastfeeding mother. Women who breastfeed older babies who have teeth also run the risk of being bitten.
• Time Consuming: Although breastfeeding is indeed a wonderful time when a mother and child can bond, sometimes the feeding process is lengthy and can even be inconvenient for a mother especially if she has other children to take care of.
• Is Baby Getting Enough: This is usually only an issue in the beginning of breastfeeding because older infants will let you know very clearly by crying that they are hungry but in the early days and weeks newborns often cry a lot. For this reason it can be worrisome to new parents as to whether their baby is getting enough to eat from the breast.
• Leaky Breasts: Many women who breastfeed experience mild to moderate leaking from their breasts. Leaking can become so severe that it comes through clothing making the situation obvious to those around the woman. It can be an embarrassing situation and an uncomfortable one.
• Possibility of Conceiving Even Though No Period: There have been countless nursing mothers who believe because they do not have a period while they are breastfeeding they are unable to get pregnant. This common misconception has resulted in several nursing mothers becoming pregnant in the first months of their baby's life.
