Festivals are some of the biggest highlights in Austrian culture; so throughout the year, it is possible to find many of them taking place. An exciting way to spend a week vacation is to visit one of these festivals. Each festival is unique, and each night holds something new for its visitors.
The festival which is probably most famous in the country is the Vienna Film Festival on the Rathausplatz. Operating during the summer in front of the Vienna City Hall, the festival presents a different film each night on the enormous film screen. There is no charge to get into the festival, and a variety of international foods await those who like to snack, dine, or gorge themselves during the party.
A few other festivals in Austria include the Easter Music Festivals (one in Vienna and one in Salzburg), from the 7th to the 17th of April; the Vienna Festival – “Wiener Festwochen” – which features theater, music and dance from May 12th to June 18th; the Summer of Music Festival in Vienna from July 20th to August 20th; and the Salzburg Summer Festival, hosting classical music performances from July 23 to August 31.
