Swimming with wild dolphins in their natural environment is an experience like no other. Dolphins are a common along the entire coastline, and swimming with dolphins is an organized activity available in several states.
1) Rockingham Dolphin Cruises - Terry Howson has developed a trusting relationship with a group of 130 bottlenose dolphins, allowing swimmers to experience close contact with these wonderful animals.
2) Baird Bay – Play with dolphins in the pristine waters of Baird Bay on the west coast of Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.
3) Monkey Mia – This remote corner of Western Australia is famous as one of the very few places on earth where dolphins interact with humans. A separate section of the beach allows visitors to swim freely among the dolphins.
4) Port Phillip Bay – Dolphin watching is a major visitor draw of Port Phillip Bay with about 150 bottlenose dolphins living in the bay. Tour operators at Sorrento and Queenscliff offer dolphin-watch cruises and the opportunity to swim with the mammals.
5) Dolphin Discovery Center
Dedicated to dolphin research, the center offers a chance to swim with the bottlenose dolphins of Bunbury's Koombana Bay. Boat tours last two hours and masks, snorkels, fins and wetsuits are provided.
6) Mandurah Easily accessible from Perth, Dolphin Encounters Mandurah offers swimming with wild dolphins, and profits help the local Dolphin Rescue Service. Swims operate between November and May for anyone ages nine and up.
