Austin was originally home to Nomadic tribes who settled on the banks of the Colorado River and what was known as Waterloo was renamed in honor of its founder, Stephen F. Austin (when he arrived in August 1821) which later became state capitol over Houston and despite his early demise just 15 years after his arrival, he managed to see Austin thrive and become a truly independent region.
