In a way, Performance Management helps you and your company to get back to basics. It seems that a lot of reviews and analyses focus on employee attitudes, behaviors, personalities, and so on. In itself, that’s not a bad thing. But to be a productive, profitable, and effective company, you also need to focus on results. It’s all about making sure the services you provide and the products you produce coming about as efficiently and effectively as you’d like.

A few more reasons you might look into performance management for your company:


  • Performance management helps employees, departments, and teams to align their activities (i.e. the things they do all day while getting paid) with the goals of the company. If the goal is to sell x number of product A, and x number of product B, and to reach an overall revenue of y, then employees need to structure their work in such a way as to meet these results-oriented goals. Taking up time with meetings, busywork, and calls that don’t directly contribute to this goal is counterproductive.
  • Performance management helps keep the big picture in view. When everyone in the organization knows what you’re ultimately striving to achieve, they can better plan strategies and activities to better meet those goals. If everything is based on how to achieve the ultimate goal, rather than how to meet a short-term need, better results will be had.
  • Performance management gives you a better way to measure results. Knowing what you’re working toward gives you something to measure performance against, and make comparisons fair.
  • Performance management depersonalizes issues, making managers focus more on behaviors and results, not personalities.
  • Performance management puts the focus on the needs of the customers, not the employees or organization.
