Your main goal in conducting an employee satisfaction survey is to find out how your employees think of the company—and to use that information to make your company more productive, profitable, and positive. With detailed satisfaction information at your fingertips, you can work to:

improve productivity

reduce turnover

curb absenteeism

strengthen management

identify training needs

better communication.

The obvious one is reducing turnover. Turnover rates are at about 25 percent currently; replacing a lost employee costs about 30 percent of that employee’s salary. Therefore, identifying factors that directly lead to turnover, such as uncomfortable working conditions, employees who feel taken advantage of, poor communication of goals from upper management, and so on, will give you an edge. Take this information to make improvements to your company in the areas employees most consistently mentioned as being poor, and you just might be able to cut one considerable cost out of your budget.

Another big issue is training. Are you training too much, spending too much money to send employees to seminars that aren’t really improving your business? Or are you failing to train employees at all, in fear of spending the money it takes to train them right? Listen to your employees. Hear what they’re saying about training. Sometimes getting the right training will motivate employees, give them the tools they need to do the job right, and make them feel more confident and comfortable in their jobs.
