Once you have chosen your album and have your photos selected, there are supplies you will need to put the pages together. There are many fun stickers, borders, and other supplies from which you can choose to embellish your pages. The following are some of the basic supplies needed:
• Scissors – A sharp pair of scissors is a necessity. Choose a pair that is comfortable to use and preferably have a fine tip for cutting out those tiny items. Select a pair that you can keep with your scrapbook supplies so you will always have them when you need them.
• Personal trimmers – Used for cutting mats, trimming background papers, and for cropping your photos.
• Cardstock and printed paper – Choose a photo safe paper for mounting your photos. Your local scrapbook stores carry paper in hundreds of styles and colors to accent your photos. Paper comes in all types of themes for your theme albums.
• Page protectors – Used to protect your photos from fingerprints or accidental spills. Page protectors typically slide on your album page from the side, sealing your pages from the top and bottom.
• Adhesive – Used for attaching your photos and mementos to your album pages. Choose an acid free adhesive that is permanent and photo safe. There are many types of adhesives from which you can choose. Experiment with several to find the type that works best for you. You may want to use different types of adhesive for different uses, such as a glue pen for small cut outs. Do not use rubber cement as it will turn brown over the years. Some of the more common adhesives are as follows:
o Glue sticks
o Mounting squares
o Hermafix tab dispensers
o Glue pens
o Tape runners
o Photo splits
o Mounting corners
• Pens – Pens are needed for journaling or labeling photos. Choose an acid free, fade resistant, waterproof, permanent pen. Typically, a fine tip works best for journaling. There are pens that come with a fine tip on one end and a wider tip on the other end. Pens come in a wide variety of colors from the standard red, black, blues, to gold, silver, and pewter.
