There is a difference between photo albums and scrapbooks. A photo album shows the photos you have taken of your friends and family. A scrapbook tells the story of the photos. Putting together a scrapbook can be such fun while reminiscing about the special memories.

A scrapbook can contain not only photos but mementos and allows for journaling your feelings about the event you are documenting. In a scrapbook you are allowed to display your family legacy in a creative manner that your family will enjoy looking at for generations.

You must begin by organizing your photos. A book for each family member can be created which shows how each child has grown over the years, the changes in their hobbies, fashion changes, school events, etc. These books can then be passed down to the individual child when they are older.

If you have a lot of old photos stored in boxes and photo albums, it may be easier to organize by themes instead of chronologically. Suggested themes are as follows:

• Christmas
• Vacations
• Births
• Birthdays
• Weddings
• School years

Be certain when buying supplies that you choose acid free supplies. The acid in paper breaks down the chemical composition in photos.

It does take time to organize your photos and design the pages, but the right supplies make putting a scrapbook together much easier.
