This year Donna Heshelman’s math class looked a little more like home economics as students learned a real world application for geometry: Quilting.
Brownsburg East Middle School students designed patterns, cut fabric, and sewed shapes, creating perfectly matched, beautifully colored handmade quilts.
Heshelman said the project began with students cutting pretend quilts from construction paper, practicing their ability to create properly measured shapes. One thing led to another, and Heshelman said she soon found herself threading needles when she was not grading papers.
