Milwaukee as the center of the national arts?

You heard it, folks. They said "national arts" and not "beer"!

The country is looking at Milwaukee differently, as a city that really has the performing arts at the highest level," said Amy Chionchio, marketing director for the United Performing Arts Fund, one of the local sponsors of the event.

And don't think the business community doesn't notice.

"When I talk with CEOs they constantly tell me how important the arts are for recruiting talent to the area," Chionchio said.

But all this attention doesn't come without a price tag. And while attending arts performances is one way of showing support, there is another: The annual UPAF campaign.

Oh well. Who knows.
