In 1987, a group of women got together to knit at the old Albro House. The proceeds from the sale of the baby clothes, hats and scarves they created were donated to the Harwich Council on Aging. By the time the Albro House closed its doors the group had donated $9,600, The group started up again in 2001 at the new community center and added another $12,364 in the last five years bringing the total to $21,964, a figure the ladies can point to with pride.

Although the composition of the group has changed over the years, two of the knitters, Ann Whittet and Jeanne Egan, go back to the beginning and will celebrate their 19th anniversary. Some of the members knit baby clothes, others stylish scarves, still others crochet potholders modeled on traditional designs.
