The word Terrarium is defined as a small to medium sized container or enclosure in which certain live plants and small reptiles, like lizards, turtle, and snakes, can be kept in. A Terrarium can have multiple purposes. It can be used as a greenhouse for certain types of plants; or, it can be used to house a pet turtle, pet lizard, or even a pet snake. Terrariums can, therefore, be useful to people who have a own a small reptile as a pet; and, they can also be useful to people who have a green thumb and like to take care of plants and shrubberies in their homes. Terrariums can also be useful to scientists who study small reptiles and the plants that can be housed by Terrariums. The small enclosure or container is almost always made with clear glass walls, windows, and floors, which allows scientists to watch and observe all activity within the terrarium. They can be used for research and observation, or, they can be used purely for decorative purposes. However, terrariums do require a certain amount of humidity in order for the plants or animals they are housing to flourish and function normally. Terrariums can serve many different purposes, depending on what the situation requires.
