Spanking ADD with Alternative Remedies

When it comes to treating Attention Deficit Disorder, the term Alternative medicine these days refers to more than just spanking the living daylights out of your kid.

With such a proliferation of ADD among children today and many concerned with the possibility of over-diagnosis, Alternative medicine offers a interesting solution: dietary intervention. Though this tactic is based on the belief that certain food allergies or manufactured products with preservatives cause ADD - a belief which has no foundation in science - many claim it gets results.

Proponents of Alternative treatments recommend taking nutritional supplements such as megadose vitamins, amino acid supplementation, Gingko biloba, or any number of other herbal remedies. Negative side effects do occur, however, and parents should take care to consult physicians before medicating a child in any way.

Another touted "cure" is metronome training, in which an ADD child trains to keep a rhythmic bear in time with a computer, which is claimed to improve motor training and planning abilities.

More research is required before the efficacy of either of these treatments can be lauded, until then, most parents continue to claim that violent fury is the most potent solution to troublesome children.
