Research shows that a growing trend of adult cancer patients in Washington state are turning to alternative remedies and almost all report substantial improvements as a result.
These results counter both the popular attitude that alternative medicine is bunk-science and the belief that a majority of the country feels the same way. Depending on the type of therapy, the report indicated that over 83% of patients surveyed used alternative medicine for general health and that nearly all reported improvements.
A smaller number of those surveyed, between 8% and 56 % used alternative remedies to treat cancer. Patients who underwent multiple medical therapies (chemotherapy, radiation, surgery) were twice as likely to use alternative medicine for cancer treatment or symptom management as compared to those who'd had surgery alone.
