Trade shows give companies a way to show off. Placing a trade show booth in a trade show gives them a way to demonstrate new products. The trick of a trade show is that similar booths, all hoping to catch the eye and ear of the attendees, surround them.

Most trade shows are only open to other members of the trade. The clothing and textile industry trade shows cater to shop owners, designers and clothing manufacturers. Building and construction trade shows are open to builders, contractors, building supply stores, etc. Most trade shows also include the press in the hopes that area media outlets will feature new products and services. This not only generates publicity for the trade show, but also for the industry and any new products that are available at the show.

Trade shows create an opportunity for business owners and representatives to see what the competition has up its collective sleeve. When you know what the competition is focusing on, it is easier to compete. Many companies send representatives that work in the company’s booth, but may also send others whose job it is to walk the floor and see what other companies are offering. When they do this, they pick up literature and business cards to read later.

Many retail businesses attend trade shows because special deals and discounts are offered that are not available at any other time. Celebrities are often invited to participate in some way in order to draw bigger crowds to the show. The point of the show is to get your name, reputation, and product or service out there. This opportunity, more than any other, is drenched with possibilities for generating more business and thus, more profit.
