There are four main rules that a sponsor should keep in mind when creating an infomercial. These rules are as follows:

  • Be precise: Before creating your infomercial, decide what the main point is that you want to get across to your audience. Your entire infomercial should centralize around that main point. Make sure to tell the viewers exactly what you want them to do and how they can do it.
  • Be direct: Create your infomercial in a way that gives the consumer direct access to the product. Don’t just encourage them to go to a super market and look for your product, but give them direct access to your product immediately. This is usually done through a toll free phone number where consumers can give their credit card numbers to purchase the item.
  • Be measurable: An infomercial must create a response that is quantifiable. In other words, the response must be something that can be calculated in a way that identifies the success or failure of the advertisement or product.
  • It must lead or sale: An infomercial often requests either an immediate purchase or an inquiry about a product. Never give the viewer more than one option. Make the process of buying or inquiring very simple.
